Marta Makes Her Mark

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (9/14/13)—Marta Prosinski scored a pair of goals as Concordia erased a 1-0 first-half deficit and beat UW-Eau Claire 2-1 in Eau Claire, Wis.

Cobber head coach Kevin Roos and the rest of the reserves had barely settled onto the bench when the Blugolds went up 1-0. Eau Claire scored just :27-seconds into the game after they took the opening kick and raced into the CC end for the score.

Concordia was able to settle down and get into the game during the second 15 minutes of play. The Cobber midfielders started to win the ball and find the front line to create chances. CC pushed forward and recorded six shots on goal in the first 25 minutes of play.

The offensive pressure was finally rewarded when Prosinski scored the first of her two goals on the day at the 32:28 mark. She stepped in front of an errant clearing attempt at the top of the Eau Claire penalty area, took one touch her left and then lofted a high arcing shot over the head of the Blugold keeper and into the back of the net.

Prosinski wasted little time in giving the Cobbers a 2-1 lead when she picked off another Eau Claire pass and hammered home a shot. Her tally at 35:45 was her fourth goal of the year and gave CC a lead they would never relinquish.

Concordia outshot the Blugolds 12-5 in total shots in the first half.

The second half was more of a back-and-forth affair as Concordia was content to sit back and defend the Eau Claire attack and then try and counter to get a third score. Neither team was able to come up with a game-changing goal in the final 45 minutes of play and CC held on for their third win of the year. The teams combined for only four shots on goal in the second half with both squads having a pair of strikes on frame.

Concordia finished with a 15-10 edge in total shots for the game and a 10-6 margin in shots on goal.

CC sophomore goalie Elizabeth Bitzan made five saves in the game and Eau Claire goalie Maddie Janssen was credited with eight stops.

The Cobbers will now head into conference play when they square off against St. Catherine in the MIAC opener on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 4 p.m. in St. Paul.
