Cobbers Start Season Ranked In Top 25
MOORHEAD, Minn. (8/18/13)—In spite of a coaching change and the graduation of a pair of All-Americans, Concordia still enters the 2013 season ranked in the top 25 of the nation in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and Continental Tire preseason rankings. The Cobbers are ranked 17th in the inaugural poll of the year after finishing 2012 ranked 13th.
Concordia is the only MIAC ranked in the NSCAA preseason top 25 poll and one of only two North Region squads to earn the national recognition.
The Cobbers will begin the 2013 season with new head coach Kevin Roos who was hired in the spring after former coach Dan Weiler left to take the head position at Christopher Newport in Virginia. Roos inherits a team that lost All-Americans Ali Nelson and Sarah Rounds and won both the MIAC regular season and postseason titles last year.
Concordia returns seven starters from the 2012 team and will be led by Libby Fransdal and Gina Weiss both of whom earned NSCAA All-North Region honors last year. CC was 17-4-2 in all games last season and finished with a 10-1-0 mark in league play.
The Cobbers will open the 2013 when they host UC-Santa Cruz on Friday, August 30 at 4 p.m.
