Kevin Roos Named Cobber Women's Soccer Coach

MOORHEAD, Minn. (4/29/13)— Fargo Shanley girls' head coach Kevin Roos has been named the new women's soccer head coach at Concordia-Moorhead. Roos, who guided Shanley to the North Dakota State championship last spring, becomes the sixth head coach in the history of the program.

Roos played for the Cobbers and was the women's assistant coach for the Concordia women's team in 2009. He takes over for Dan Weiler who left to take the women's soccer head coaching position at Christopher Newport in Newport News, Va.

"Kevin has a great mixture of soccer experience, coaching success, knowledge of the college and women's program at Concordia," stated Concordia Athletic Director Rich Glas. "I am extremely pleased to add Kevin to the staff. I think he will do a great job of keeping the program at the level it has achieved."

Roos has been the head coach for the Fargo Shanley High School girls' soccer team since 2004. He has been named the North Dakota State High School Coach of the Year on four occasions and currently has a 40-game unbeaten streak with the Deacons. Roos guided Fargo Shanley to its first state title last spring. He was also the Fargo Shanley boys' head coach from 2002-06 and helped the Deacons to their first winning season in school history.

"I am very excited to be able to be the head coach at Concordia," said Roos. "The college has been a big part of my life and it has helped shape the person I am today."

During his stint as assistant coach for the Cobber women's program in 2009, the team went undefeated in the regular season, won the MIAC regular-season championship and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. Roos also helped coach the team on the summer trip to Brazil in 2010.

Roos graduated from Concordia in 2002 and was the co-captain of the men's soccer team in 2001. He was a two-year starter for the Cobbers and helped Concordia finish in the top 5 of the MIAC in three of the four seasons he played.

In addition to his coaching duties at Fargo Shanley, Roos is also a Health and Physical Education teacher at Sullivan Middle School in Fargo.
