Weiler Resigns As Head Coach

MOORHEAD, Minn. (3/07/13)—Dan Weiler resigned his position as head coach of the Concordia women's soccer team it was announced on Tuesday. Weiler resigned after accepting the head women's soccer job at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Va.

"We can't thank Dan enough for all the great work and leadership he has shown during his time at Concordia," commented Concordia Athletic Director Rich Glas. "He helped the team become a national powerhouse on the field and was an incredible mentor to all his student/athletes off the field."

Weiler coached the Cobber women's soccer team for 11 seasons and compiled an impressive 144-58-24 overall record. He was named the MIAC Coach of the Year on four occasions and awarded the NSCAA Region Coach of the Year in 2009 and 2012. Weiler guided the Cobbers to four MIAC regular-season titles and four conference tournament championships. He also helped the team earn six NCAA Tournament appearances in the last seven seasons. Concordia advanced to the Sweet 16 of the national playoffs in three of the past four seasons.

In addition to all the team achievements, Weiler also mentored individuals that earned seven MIAC Most Valuable Player honors. Under Weiler's tutelage, Cobber athletes were honored with five All-American awards, 30 All-Region awards and a pair of Capital One Academic All-American honorees.      

"I have been very blessed during my time at Concordia," said Weiler. "Concordia gave me an incredible opportunity to coach players that were tremendous athletes but even better people."

Weiler started his tenure at Concordia in 2000 as the assistant men's and women's soccer coach. He was then hired as the head women's coach in 2002. While coaching the women's team, Weiler also served as the head men's soccer coach for five years. He was the head men's coach from 2007-11 and helped the 2010 team win 13 games and reach the championship game of the MIAC playoff tournament.

Weiler will begin his coaching duties at Christopher Newport on Mar. 17. Glas stated that a national search to find a new women's soccer coach will begin in the next few weeks.

Weiler finished by saying, "Concordia, my former players and all the people I worked with will always have a special place in my life. I will always call the area home and will cherish the memories I made there forever."
