Rounds And Nelson Are All-Americans

MOORHEAD, Minn. (12/10/12)—Seniors Sarah Rounds and Ali Nelson finished off the awards season by being named to the National Soccer Coaches of Association of America (NSCAA) All-American teams. Rounds was named to the All-American Second Team while Nelson earned Third Team honors.

Concordia was the only school in the MIAC to have a player named to the NSCAA All-American Teams. It is also the first time in program history that the Cobbers have had multiple All-American honorees in the same season.

Rounds becomes the second player in school history to earn All-American honors in back-to-back seasons while Nelson earns the first All-American award of her career.

Rounds' All-American award is a fitting end for her career which saw her set the school's all-time scoring record. Rounds finished her four seasons with a record-setting 138 points. She scored 51 goals and added 36 assists in her four seasons at Concordia. Her 51 total goals are third on the school's all-time list and her assist total is in the top 5 on the Cobber all-time list. Rounds led the team in scoring three straight seasons and had three straight 30-plus point years.

In addition to her back-to-back All-American honors, Rounds was a two-time MIAC Player of the Year, earned All-Conference honors for four straight years and was an All-Region honoree for three consecutive seasons.

Nelson deservedly earns her All-American honor after setting every Concordia school goalkeeping record. She was also MIAC All-Conference and NSCAA All-Region for four consecutive seasons. Nelson set the school record for most career goalkeeping wins (58), most shutouts in a career (40), most career games played by a goalie (86), most career minutes played by a goalie (7,916) and lowest career goals against average (0.72).

Nelson, who played every single minute of every game for the Cobbers in 2012, led the MIAC in goals against average, wins and shutouts among goalies that started at least half of their team's league games.
