Cobbers Headed To Iowa For NCAA Tournament

MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/05/12)—No.15-ranked Concordia will play Lake Forest (Ill.) in the first round of the 2012 NCAA Tournament it was announced on Monday. The Cobbers will play the Foresters in an opening-round game at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa.

Concordia's first round game will be on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 7:30 p.m. The winner of the Concordia/Lake Forest first round game will meet the winner of the Wartburg/California Lutheran game in the second round which will also be held at Wartburg. The second-round game in the group of four will be on Sunday, Nov. 11 at 5 p.m. Both first-round games and the second-round game on Sunday will feature live video.

Concordia is making its fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and sixth in the past seven seasons. The Cobbers earned their trip to the national playoffs by winning the MIAC postseason tournament. CC also won the conference regular- season championship. Concordia is 15-3-2 on the season in all games and went 10-1-0 in the MIAC. The 15 overall wins is the tied for third most in program history. The most wins in a single season came in 2009 when CC went 18-1-2. The Cobbers were 16-4-1 in 2007.   

Lake Forest qualified for the NCAA Tournament by winning the Midwest Conference Tournament. The Foresters also won the MWC regular-season championship. They enter the national playoffs with a record of 14-5-1. They went 8-1-1 in their conference play. Lake Forest is making its second appearance in the NCAA Tournament and first since the 2003 season.

California Lutheran is making its third straight NCAA Tournament appearance and 12th overall appearance. The Regals won the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular-season championship for the third straight year but were upset in the semifinals of the SCIAC Tournament. They earned one of the 20 at-large bids into the tournament. Cal Lutheran enters the national playoffs with an overall record of 17-4-0 and had a record of 13-1-0 in conference play.

The host Knights also received one of the at-large bids for the NCAA Tournament. They were 12-4-3 in their 19 games this season, finished in second place in the regular season of the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and lost in the semifinals of the conference tournament. Wartburg is making third consecutive appearance in the national playoffs and fourth overall appearance.
