Cobbers Climb Into Top 15

MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/30/12)—Concordia took another jump in the National Soccer Coaches Association (NSCAA) national rankings this week. The Cobbers are now in the top 15 of Division III for the first time all season.

Strengthened by their wins over regionally-ranked Augsburg and MIAC playoff foe St. Ben's, the Cobbers jumped from the No.19 spot in last week's rankings to No.15 in the current poll. It marks the first time since the 2009 season that Concordia has been ranked in the top 15.

The Cobbers finished the regular season by winning the MIAC Championship for the fourth time in the past seven years. Concordia went 10-1 in MIAC play this season and won the league title by a full three games. CC also went 14-3-1 in their 18 total games. The 14 overall wins are the most since 2009 and the 10 league victories match the school-record total from 2009 and 2004.

Concordia went 8-1 in the month of October and have won six straight games. The only loss during the month came at national runner-up Wheaton (Ill.) in a 4-3 double overtime thriller.

The Cobbers finished the conference schedule by leading the league in goals scored (25), goals per game (2.3), goals against (5) and goals against average (0.45). CC was also second in the MIAC in shots per game (17.4).

Concordia will start its postseason run on Wednesday, Oct. 31 at 2 p.m. when they host St. Ben's in an MIAC semifinal game. The Cobbers defeated the Blazers 2-1 in double overtime in the regular-season finale on Saturday.
