A Routine Win At Gustavus

ST. PETER, Minn. (9/15/12)—A pair of first-half goals helped Concordia roll to a 2-0 win over Gustavus in St. Peter on Saturday. The Cobbers outshot the Gusties 30-5 in picking up their second straight conference win of the season.

Not only was the game a very routine win for the Cobbers, the score line also showed little variance to the rest of the 2012 season. CC senior All-American Sarah Rounds scored her MIAC-leading seventh goal of the year. Rounds, who scored the second goal of the game against Gustavus, has now scored at least one goal in all six games for CC this year. She currently has seven goals and two assists for 16 points. Rounds also upped her career scoring total to 114 points. She is now nine points away from moving into the No.5 spot on the school's all-time scoring chart.

Sophomore midfielder Laura Prosinski came up with the game-winning goal on Saturday. She was able to one-time a shot from 30 yards out after the Gustavus goalie punted the ball into play. Prosinki's shot bounced in front of the GAC goalie and then over her head and into the net. Her goal at the 30:44 mark was her first of the 2012 season.

Rounds then put the game out of reach almost 14 minutes later. She calmly beat the goalie from the top of the penalty area just before the end of the first period and that late-half goal broke the game open for CC.

Concordia had several chances to score in the second half and had eight shots on net but was never able to collect another insurance goal.

In addition to the 30-5 edge in total shots, the Cobbers had an 18-3 margin in shots on goal.

CC goalkeeper Ali Nelson made just three saves to earn her third shutout of the season.

Concordia will have a six-day break before hosting league rival Carleton on Saturday, Sept. 22 at 2:30 p.m.
