Cobbers Move Up To No.12 In National Rankings

MOORHEAD, Minn (9/04/12)—Concordia moved up two spots from their preseason national ranking and are now ranked 12th in the very first National Soccer Coaches Association (NSCAA) regular season poll.

The Cobbers were ranked 14th in the preseason poll that came out on Aug. 7. CC started the year by beating previously nationally ranked UW-Whitewater 2-0 in the opener. Concordia then tied St. Scholastica 1-1 in double overtime on Sunday and are now 1-0-1 on the season.

In addition to their top 15 national ranking, Concordia checks in as the top team in the NSCAA North Region rankings. St. Scholastica, who is also 1-0-1 on the year, is the No.3 team in the regional rankings.

The Cobbers are led by senior All-American forward Sarah Rounds who surpassed the 100-point barrier for her career. Rounds scored two of the team's three goals last weekend and was named the MVP of the Advantage Emblem Cup. She now has 103 career points and is sixth on the school's all-time scoring list. She needs 20 more points to move into the fifth spot on the Cobber all-time scoring chart. Angie Tohm holds the school's all time scoring record. She collected 137 points from 1993-96.

Concordia will face another regionally ranked opponent this weekend when they square off against Wartburg College (Iowa) on Sunday, Sept. 9 at 1 p.m. CC will also play UW-River Falls on Saturday, Sept. 8 at 1 p.m.
