Chloupek & Bisek Earn Weight-Class Titles At Opener
STEVENS POINT, Wis. (11/02/24)---Connor Chloupek and Ty Bisek served notice that Concordia is ready for the 2024-25 season.
The two seniors led the Cobbers at the season-opening Wis.-Stevens Point Pointer Open by coming away with weight-class championships.
Chloupek, who had his 2023-24 season cut short by an injury, moved up to the 197-lb weight class and proceeded to go 4-0 to win the title. He had three bonus-point wins on the day including a pin in the championship match over Logan Neitzel of Wis.-Stevens Point who was a place winner at last year's NCAA Upper Midwest Regional Meet.
Another redemption story to watch for in 2025 will come from Bisek who fell shy of qualifying for the NCAA National Meet last season. Bisek, who is also moving up a weight class this season, kicked off his senior year by going 5-0 at 141. He posted a pair of wins by pin and another by tech fall. His biggest win of the day came in the semifinals where he recorded a 4-0 decision over Kody Ketchum of Division II Maryville who was a Missouri state finalist in high school.
The rally of the opening day belonged to junior Zach Pribyl, who lost his opening match and then rebounded to win four straight and capture the consolation championship at 174. His feat was even more impressive considering the fact that Pribyl won all four of his consolation matches by a pin including the final bout where he pinned Dalton Litzinger of Maryville at the 4:54 mark.
The third Top 5 finish of the opener was turned in by senior Elijah Hunt. Hunt went 4-2 and finished in fifth place at 165. He started his 2024-25 season with a pin and a 4-2 decision before losing in the quarterfinals. He ended the day by going 2-1 to capture fifth place.
Alex McPhee and had four wins Xander Spray were the other Cobbers with more than two wins on the day. McPhee went 4-2 at 157 with his only two losses coming against Division I opponents from MSU Mankato.
Spray was 3-2 at 133. All three of his wins were of the bonus point variety with a pin, tech fall and major decision coming in the first three consolation rounds.
Concordia will have a 2-week break before returning to action at the Augsburg Invite on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 9 a.m.
