Johnson Caps Career At NCAA Meet

ROANOKE, Va. (3/08/19)---Senior Ty Johnson capped his career at Concordia with his second appearance at the NCAA Championship Meet. Johnson, who also qualified for nationals as a sophomore, faced an uphill battle as he faced the 2018 NCAA runner-up at 149 in his opening match and then faced an opponent with over 100 college wins in his second match.

Johnson lost both matches to have his NCAA Meet come to an end on Day 1.

Johnson started the day by facing No.8 seed, and 3-time All-American, Gregory Warner of York (Pa.) in the first round and lost 10-0. Johnson fell behind in the first 30 seconds of the match as he gave up a takedown and then got placed on his back and conceded a 4-point near fall. Johnson trailed 6-0 after the first period. He was able to slow down Warner in the second period but gave up another takedown in the third and conceded a point for riding time to bring the final score to 10-0.

Johnson had to wait until the evening session to get back on the mat in the wrestleback round. He squared off against 2-time NCAA Meet qualifier Jared Lasko of John Carroll who had lost to the No.1 seed in the opening round. Once again Johnson fell behind and couldn't overcome the deficit. He was able to rally in the third period and tie the match at 3-3 before Lasko came away with the 8-3 win.

Johnson finishes his senior season with 30 wins – the most in a single season in his career.
