Caught & Passed At The Finish

STORY LINE: Concordia bolted to an 8-0 lead, held a lead for the first seven matches against Northern State but then dropped the final three bouts of their season-opening dual meet and lost 23-14. The match started at the 165-lb weight class and the Cobbers led 14-10 after the bout at 133 but then lost three straight matches to lose by nine points.

FAST OUT OF THE GATES: The Cobbers opened an 8-point lead after the first two bouts of the night when junior Travis Deegan came away 16-0 major decision at 165 and then freshman Kaden Spindler won 4-2 at 174. Deegan earned 4-point near falls in the first and third periods as he won for the fourth time on the year and is now 4-2. Spindler used a takedown in the opening period of his match at 174 to record the victory. It was the only takedown of the match. Spindler also had an escape at the start of the second period and then tacked on a riding time point to up his season record to 4-1.

NICE NOAH: Freshman heavyweight Noah Carter continued his earl-collegiate career success as he recorded a 4-2 victory at 285. Carter came away with an escape in the second period and used a 3-point third to win the bout. He was awarded a pair of points when his opponent repeatedly stalled and then earned the bonus point for riding time. Carter is now 4-1 on the season. He opened the year by placing second in the JamestownOpen.

FIRING B-B'S: Concordia's final win of the night came courtesy of sophomore Benjamin Bogart. Bogart outscored his opponent by at least two points in all three periods and won 9-3 at 133. He had takedowns in the first and third periods and also earned the riding time point. Bogart now leads the team with five wins on the year. He is 5-1 for the season.
