Three Up, Seven Down In Aberdeen

ABERDEEN, S.D. (12/08/16)—No.7-ranked Concordia had the rug pulled out from underneath their feet after the third match at Division II Northern State. The Cobbers led 11-0 but then the Wolves won the last seven bouts and won 26-11.

The loss is only the second of the year for the nationally-ranked Cobbers who fall to 4-2 on the year. Northern State wins for the second straight match and is now 2-2 on the year.

A trio of juniors were the highlight of the match for Concordia. The first three matches were all won by juniors from CC and the trio gave the Cobbers an 11-0 lead less than 30 minutes into the match.

All-American Jakob Stageberg staked Concordia to a 4-0 lead after the very first match. Stageberg notched three takedowns in the first period, two more in the third period and claimed the 17-3 major decision victory. The win was Stageberg's sixth of the year as he moves to 6-3.

Aaron Dick used the momentum started by Stageberg and came away with a takedown in the first period of his match at 133. He then followed that up with a takedown in the second and third periods and won 7-2 to push Concordia's lead to 7-0.

Adam Presler would get the final win of the match for the Cobbers. He recorded an 11-3 major decision at 141. Presler had near falls in each of the first and third periods to get to his 11-point total. He only allowed a takedown in the first period and then an escape at the start of the third and was on the attack for the majority of the match.

Concordia lost by a 15-8 decision at 149 but then gave up three straight bonus-point wins to fall behind 16-11.

The Cobbers nearly stopped the Wolves' winning streak at 184. Parker Jackson jumped out to a 4-0 lead by getting a takedown and then a near fall in the first period, but like the team competition, he watched as his opponent scored five straight points to win 5-4. The winning points came on a takedown in the third period.

The other decision loss for CC came at 285 where freshman Travis Adams fell 6-1. Adams was trailing 1-0 heading into the third period and was in the down position when his opponent was able to score a pair of near falls to earn the win.
