Four Unanswered Foils Cobbers vs. #6 Auggies

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (1/23/15)--- No.3-ranked Concordia dropped the final four individual matches in their dual against No.6-ranked Augsburg and lost 26-12. The Cobbers took a 12-10 lead before conceding 16 straight points and losing for the first time in the last three dual meets.

The decision is a reversal of fortune from last year's dual meet where the Cobbers earned a 26-6 win in Moorhead.

The loss on Friday knocks Concordia's dual-meet record to 10-5 on the season. Augsburg improves to 8-3.

The Cobbers dropped the first two individual bouts before All-American Jacoby Bergeron started a string of three CC wins in four matches. Bergeron, who is currently ranked fifth in Division III at 141, fought his way to a 2-0 decision and earned his 17th straight victory. Bergeron is now 27-6 on the year and 12 wins away from the school record for most wins in a single season held by Justin Berns (38 – 2009).

After dropping a very close overtime decision at 149, junior Ben Cousins got Concordia back on the winning track with an overtime win of his own at 157. Cousins scored a 3-1 win in the first sudden victory period to collect his 15th win of the season. Cousins

No.3-ranked Jake Krogstad finished off the trio of wins for Concordia. He came away with his fifth pin fall of the season when he put his opponent's shoulders on the mat at the 4:40 mark. His bonus-point win gave the Cobbers a 12-10 lead heading into the final four bouts of the night. The win was Krogstad's 14th of the year and pushes him to 14-8. He now has a four-match winning streak.

The next two matches proved to be the swing point of the match. Concordia lost nine points in two weight classes that could have gone the Cobbers' way.

CC then lost a major decision at 197 before Justice Davis lost in overtime to No.7-ranked Donny Longendyke. Longendyke is 27-2 on the year after transferring from the University of Nebraska. Davis and Longendyke squared off at the MSU Moorhead Invite at the start of December and Longendyke came away with a 6-0 decision.

Concordia will stay on the road for their third straight away dual meet. The Cobbers will travel west to take on Dickinson State on Wednesday, Jan. 28 at 7 p.m.
