Nationally Ranked Trio Spearheads Steamroll Over Oles

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (1/16/15)—Newly appointed No.3-ranked Concordia steamrolled St. Olaf 51-3 to earn its 10th dual-meet win of the season. The Cobbers have now won at least 10 duals in five of the past seven seasons.

Concordia won the first four individual bouts of the meet and also the last five matches. Included in the nine individual wins were five victories by pin fall and three by forfeit.

The Cobbers' trio of nationally ranked athletes all earned wins by pin fall. No.5-ranked Jacoby Bergeron pinned his opponent at the 3:41 mark at 141. No.3-ranked Jake Krogstad earned a pin at 4:09 in his match at 165 and brand new nationally ranked Sebastian Gardner claimed a pin at the 4:30 mark at 174.

Bergeron has now won 16 straight matches and owns a Cobber best 26-6 record this year. Krogstad continues to excel against Division III opponents. He has now won five straight and is 13-8 on the season. Gardner, who is now ranked seventh in the latest NWCA national rankings at 174, is 18-5 on the year and is 5-1 since dropping back down to 174.

The other pin fall winners for Concordia were Brandon Larson and Danny Pike. Larson returned to the lineup after almost a full month hiatus due to an injury. He is now 9-3 for the year. Pike has been in and out of the lineup since the end of December. He has now won two of his last three matches and both have come by pin fall.

The only other non-forfeit win for Concordia came at 149 where Yonas Gebreab ground out a 6-5 win to give the Cobbers a 21-0 lead after four matches. The win is the 14th of the season for Gebreab who is tied for fifth on the team in most wins in 2014-15.

Aaron Dick, Gabe Foltz and Justice Davis all walked on the mat to accept forfeit wins. For Davis it was his 21st win of the season which ties him for second most for the Cobbers.

Concordia will now have a week to prepare for their top 10 showdown with Augsburg. The Cobbers will square off against the Auggies on Friday, Jan. 23 at 7 p.m. in Minneapolis.
