Cobbers Climb To No.4 In National Rankings

MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/06/15)—Concordia continued to climb in the national rankings as the Cobbers moved up one spot to fourth in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division III poll. It is the second highest ranking in program history.

Concordia, who was ranked fifth in the NWCA released on Dec. 9, earned the promotion thanks to a 3-1 record at the Desert Duals held in Las Vegas, Nev. on Dec. 21. During the one-day dual meet, Concordia beat previously ranked No.4 Coe (Iowa) before losing to No.2-ranked – and defending national champion – Wartburg.

Concordia is currently 6-3 in dual meets with two of the three losses coming at the hands of quality NCAA Division II teams.

The No.4 ranking is second only to last year when the Cobbers were ranked No.2 in the nation for two weeks after finishing second in the annual NWCA National Duals Meet.

The Cobbers continue to have a pair of wrestlers ranked in the top 10 of their individual weight class. All-American Jacoby Bergeron is currently ranked fifth at 141 and Jake Krogstad is fourth at 165. Bergeron leads Concordia in wins with a 22-6 record while Krogstad is now 9-8 on the year.

Concordia will have their No.4 ranking tested this weekend when they travel to Ft. Wayne, Ind. To compete in this year's NWCA National Dual Meet. The Cobbers have a bye for the first round of the tournament and will face the winner of the Johnson & Wales/Augustana (Ill.) dual in the Round of 16.
