Cobbers Climb Into The Top 10

MOORHEAD, Minn. (12/02/13)—Concordia continues to climb in the national rankings. The Cobbers inched up one spot in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) poll and jumped into the top 10 in the latest rankings.

Concordia is now ranked 10th in the NWCA poll. The Cobbers inched up from the No.11 spot in the Nov. 14 rankings. It marks the first time this season that CC has been ranked in the top 10 of the nation. It is the first time since the end of November in 2011 that Concordia is ranked in the top 10.

In addition to the top 10 team ranking, the Cobbers also have three wrestlers ranked in the top 10 of the nation in their weight class. Will McCarthy, Jake Long and Cody Kasprick continue to be ranked in the top 10 of Division III. McCarthy, who is 9-3 on the year, is No.8 at 125. Long is 9-3 at 149 and is the highest ranked Cobber in the poll. He checks in at No.3 this year. Kasprick is ranked sixth at 285 and owns an 8-3 record.

The Cobbers earned the top 10 ranking by winning their first two dual meets and placing multiple individuals in the top 5 in the pair of invitationals they have participated in this year. Concordia beat Division II Southwest Minnesota State 18-15 and then blanked former conference rival St. Olaf 53-0.

Concordia returns to action this weekend when they compete in the MSU Moorhead Dragon Open. The Cobbers will then host St. Cloud State on Thursday, Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. The Huskies are currently ranked fourth in NCAA Division II and were runners-up DII national championship meet last year.
