Bonus-Point Matches Cost Cobbers

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (1/26/13)—A pair of pins cost No.17-ranked Concordia against No.7-ranked Augsburg on Saturday. The national-caliber teams traded decision but the strength of the two pin falls gave the Auggies a 24-12 decision.

The team bout was tied at 9-9 after the match at 157 but then Augsburg won four of the final five matches to capture the 12-point win. The loss evens Concordia's dual-meet record at 5-5 on the year. The Auggies are now 4-3.

Augsburg won two of the first three bouts of the day. The lone Cobber win came from Jacoby Bergeron who recorded a 6-4 win at 133. The win for Bergeron was his fifth straight and sixth in seven tries since returning to the lineup in January.

The first key pin for the Auggies came at 141 but then the Cobbers responded with decision wins at 149 and 157 to tie the score at 9-9. Jake Long doubled up Rashad Kennedy 10-5 in the match at 149. Long is now 11-7 on the year and has won five of his last six matches. Kevin Fynboh then followed Long's win with an 8-5 victory at 157. The victory for Fynboh snapped a three-match losing streak and upped his season record to 14-8. He is one of six CC wrestlers that have at least 14 wins on the season.

After a pair of decisions by Augsburg, sophomore Chris Harrison scored an 8-3 win at 184 to bring Concordia to within three points at 15-12. That would be as close as CC would get as the Auggies posted a decision and pin fall in the final two bouts of the meet. Harrison has now posted 13 wins in his second collegiate season and has 30 career victories.

The Cobbers have a little over a week to prepare for their next dual meet. Concordia will host cross-town rival MSU Moorhead on Tuesday, Feb. 5 beginning at 7 p.m.
