Fynboh Leads Cobber Charge At Dragon Open

MOORHEAD, Minn. (12/01/12)—Kevin Fynboh carried over the momentum from his dual-meet win on Friday into Saturday as he led Concordia at the MSU Dragon Open. Fynboh went 2-1 and recorded the Cobbers' only top 3 finish at the highly competitive invitational.

Fynboh was one of four Cobbers to win on Friday night against Southwest Minnesota State and used that confidence to score a 3-2 decision in the quarterfinals at 157 in the red division on Saturday. He then lost a tough 6-3 decision in the semifinals before claiming another 4-3 decision in the third-place match. Fynboh is now 6-5 on the season.

Tom Bouressa, Jake Krogstad and Chase Austvold came away with fourth-place finishes in their weight class. Bouressa and Krogstad both went 2-2 in the Red Division which was designated for the top non-freshmen wrestlers from each squad while Austvold was 2-2 in the White Division which was for first-year athletes.

Bouressa, who is ranked sixth at 285 in the latest AWCA national rankings, started the meet with two straight wins to push his season record to 6-0. He then fell 3-2 to Chad Johnson of Augsburg who is currently ranked No.1 at 285. Bouressa's third-place match was against Michael Kroells, the No.2 wrestler at 285 for the University of Minnesota, and he was unable to come up with a takedown and lost 3-1.

Krogstad started his day by claiming a pair of pin fall wins over Division II competitors. He then lost 8-3 in the semifinals against Matthew Gray from NDSU who was 12-4 heading into the meet. Krogstad lost his third-place match against Brock Krumm from Division II University of Mary.

Austvold continues his steady development as one of the Cobbers' best first-year wrestlers. Like Krogstad, Austvold started his meet with a pair of pins and then lost two straight. Austvold is now 10-6 on the season and is one of two CC wrestlers with a double-digit win total.

Other notables for Concordia included Chris Harrison and Delson Saintal who both went 3-2 on the day. Harrison finished in sixth place at 184 in the Red Division and Delson Saintal captured sixth at 197 in the White Division. Saintal had one of the fastest pin falls of the entire tournament when he won in just 19-seconds in his opening round match.

Concordia will have a 10-day break before returning to dual-meet competition when they wrestle at St. Cloud State on Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 7 p.m.
