Cobbers Climb In National Rankings

MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/26/12)—Concordia climbed two spots in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) national rankings. The Cobbers climbed from the No.14 spot in the poll to No.12 in the second rankings of the season.

In addition to the national ranking as a team, the Cobbers have two individuals ranked in the tp 10 of their weight class. Seniors Nate Schmitz and Tom Bouressa are both in the DIII national rankings. Schmitz is ranked second at 197 and Bouressa is sixth at 285.

Concordia is one of three MIAC schools that sponsor wrestling to be ranked in the top 25 of the nation. Augsburg is currently ranked second and St. John's is 25th.

The Cobbers are 1-0 on the season and have posted some quality results at their first two multiple-team invitationals. Concordia had several top 6 finishes at the NDSU Bison Open and then had a pair of weight class champions and nine top 5 finishers at the Finn Grinaker Cobber Open.

Schmitz hasn't wrestled this season due to an injury while Bouressa is undefeated on the year. Bouressa captured the 285-lb weight class at the Finn Grinaker Cobber Open. He went 3-0 at the meet and beat a pair of NCAA Division I wrestlers.

Concordia will have back-to-back competitions this weekend. The Cobbers will host Southwest Minnesota State in a dual meet on Friday, Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. and then head across Eighth Street to participate in the MSU Moorhead Dragon Open on Saturday, Dec. 1 beginning at 9 a.m.
