Nine Wins And A Season-Opening Dual-Meet Victory

MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/16/12)—Concordia won nine of the 10 individual matches in their season-opening dual-meet win over Ridgewater CC. The Cobbers won the final six bouts of the night en route to a 34-5 win over the Warriors.

Concordia, who claimed six of the nine wins of the meet by decision, was led by Jordan Bendson and Delson Saintal. Bendson and Saintal both earned at least four team points by dominating their opponents. Bendson earned a major decision at 165 by winning 11-0. Bendson, who finished fourth at last Saturday's Bison Open, never let his opponent get close to earning a point and won his fourth match of the season. Saintal, one of the very talented freshmen for the Cobbers, claimed the only pin fall of the night. He put his opponent's shoulders on the mat at the 2:07 mark.

A trio of Concordia newcomers put the Cobbers up 9-0 after the first three matches of the meet. Gabe Foltz earned a forfeit victory at 125 and then Yonas Gebreab battled his way to a 4-1 decision at 133. Chase Austvold made a clean sweep for CC to begin the night when he left no doubt in his match at 141 and posted a 11-5 victory.

After the lone loss at 149, Concordia won six straight with victories by Jake Long, Benson, Jake Krogstad, Chris Harrison, Saintal and Cody Kasprick. Long started the unanswered victory streak by winning 5-2 at 157. Krogstad followed Bendson's major decision win by recording a 10-5 decision at 174. Harrison then won 5-2 at 184 and Kasprick finished off the dual meet with the closet decision of the night. He was able to come away with a 7-5 victory in overtime at 285 to earn his fourth win of the year. Like Bendson, Kasprick placed fourth at the NDSU Open on Nov. 10.

Concordia will now host one of the top DIII invites in the region. CC will welcome over 260 wrestlers from 15 different colleges – including several Division I squads – for the annual Finn Grinaker Cobber Open on Saturday, Nov. 17 beginning at 9 a.m.
