Bio

Former NHL player Brian Lee joined the Cobber coaching staff for the 2015-16 season. He brings professional and NCAA Division I experience to his role in charge of the Concordia defensive players.

Lee is one of the players to ever play for the stories Moorhead High School program. He went on to star at the University of North Dakota and then had a six-year career in the NHL. Lee played for the Ottawa Senators and Tampa Bay Lightning during his days in the NHL from 2007-2013.     

Lee started his trek through the top levels of hockey by being named Minnesota’s Mr. Hockey in 2005 as the state’s top player. He was also named the Associated Press’ Player of the Year for Minnesota. He was also one of the few high school players to play for Team USA in the World Junior Championships.

Lee then played for the University of North Dakota for two years before being drafted by the Ottawa Senators in the first round – the ninth overall pick.

Lee played for the Senators for five seasons from the 2007-08 campaign through the 2011-12 season. He was then traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning in February of 2012. Lee tore his ACL while playing for the Lightning. The injury eventually required surgery and led to the end of his playing career.

Lee played in 209 games in the NHL and scored five goals to go along with 31 assists for 36 career NHL points.
