Déjà Vu All Over Again

DULUTH, Minn. (01/29/22)---It was a case of déjà vu all over again for Concordia. The Cobbers were tied with St. Scholastica heading into the final 20-minutes of play, but then a multiple-goal third period by the Saints sent CC to a 4-2 loss.

On Friday night, Concordia conceded three consecutive goals in the third period, outshot the Saints and lost 4-2. On Saturday, the Cobbers allowed two unanswered scores in the third after the game was tied at 2-2 heading into the second break, outshot St. Scholastica and fell 4-2.

St. Scholastica (9-6-1, 6-2-1 MIAC) scored the first two goals in the series finale. The came through with single scores in the first five minutes of each of the first two periods of play.

Concordia (6-11-0, 2-8-0) countered with two goals in the final 11-minutes of the second period to tie the game at 2-2.

Jerica Friese continued her scoring tear when she brought the Cobbers within one goal at the 9:19 mark. Libby Hinrichs earned the assist on the even-strength goal. The tally was Friese's team-leading 12th of the year. She has now scored a single goal in five straight games. Her 12 goals on the year is second most in the MIAC, and most by a CC player since the 2018 season when Amanda Flemming led the team with 15 tallies.

Sophomore Josie Hell tied the score at 2-2 when scored a second even-strength goal at 14:51. Lynze Swanson and Maiah McCowan picked up the assists on Hell's fourth goal of the year.

The 2-2 deadlock would be broken midway through the third period and then the Saints would add the fourth goal in the final minute of the game.

Concordia outshot St. Scholastica for the second straight game. CC had a 39-32 advantage in the series finale, and wound up outshooting the Saints 83-57 in the two games in Duluth.

Friese led Concordia with seven shots. Hell had five shots on goal, while Hinrichs added four.

Kiana Flaig got the start in goal for the second straight game and made 28 saves.

UP NEXT: Concordia will return home and host St. Ben's on Friday, Feb. 4 at 5 p.m. The Bennies are 8-7-0 overall, 4-4-0 in league play and have won three straight.
