Season Comes Full CIrcle

MOORHEAD, Minn. (3/13/21)---Concordia's 2021 season came full circle on Saturday. The Cobbers started the season by getting shutout at home and they ended the season by getting blanked at home as well. In between those two games, Concordia went 2-1 and averaged 3.67 goals a game.

The Cobbers finished off the shortened 2021 campaign by losing 2-0 to Augsburg at the Moorhead Sports Center. Concordia put up more shots and had more quality chances than they did in Friday night's 4-2 win, but on Saturday they ran into a hot goalie and couldn't find the back of the net.

Augsburg scored the only non-empty net goal of the game in the first half of the opening period. The Auggies controlled the early stages of the series finale and got on the board when a shot from the left faceoff circle found its way through the traffic in front of the goal and slid on the ice past goalie Kiana Flaig.

The goal flipped the switch for the Cobbers who started to gain more offensive zone time in the second half of the period. The Auggies outshot CC 7-0 in the first 8:21 of the first period when they scored the game-winning goal. The Cobbers then outshot Augsburg 17-11 for the next 31 minutes of the game.

Concordia had many chances from inside the faceoff circles but never found a way to get the puck past Auggies goalie Mara McClain.

The Cobbers made several offensive surges in the third period but were stymied each time they got the puck around the net.

Concordia upped the offensive pressure in the final minute of play when they pulled Flaig for an extra skater. Even then they were unable to come up with the game-tying goal.

Augsburg closed out the scoring with an empty-net goal at the 19:58 mark when one of their forwards was able to get possession of the puck in the neutral zone and skated free before sliding the puck into the net from between the circles.

The Cobbers were outshot 27-20 in the game. Jordie Egerdahl and Brenna Mjoness led CC with four shots each.

Flaig stopped 25 of the 26 shots she faced in goal. She finished the season with a 1.59 goals against average and a 93.7% save percentage.

TEAM LEADERS: The Cobbers had five players end the year with three points each.
