Cobbers Drop Non-Conference Finale

MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/04/20)---Concordia gave up five straight goals to No.7-ranked Wis.-River Falls and lost 5-1 in the series finale.

The Cobbers conceded three scores in the first and two more in the second but held the Falcons scoreless in the third. Sophomore Hannah Christian scored her first collegiate goal to put CC on the board at the start of the third period.

The game was the sixth straight against teams ranked in the Top 10 of the nation for the Cobbers and it was also their final non-conference contest of the year. Concordia is now 4-9 overall and ends with a 2-5 record against non-league opponents.

River Falls wins for the fourth time in the last five games and is now 9-3-1 for the year.

The Falcons sprinted out of the gate by scoring in the third minute of the first period and adding two more goals before the game was less than 12-minutes old.

Concordia was able to slow the River Falls' down in the second period and held them to five fewer shots on goal and two scores.

Concordia showed their never-say-die attitude in the final period. They outscored the Falcons 1-0.

Christian earned her first college goal by firing home a shot from the right faceoff circle. Her goal at the 3:16 mark of the final frame was assisted by Mackenzie Bergstrom who had a hand in both CC goals on the weekend.

The Cobbers were outshot 50-13 in the game. Maiah McCowan led the team with two shots on goal. Concordia had 11 players with a single shot on goal.

Concordia split the goaltending duties. Freshman Kiana Flaig started the game and played the first 8:35. She made seven saves. Senior Amy Jost played the final 51:25 and stopped 38 shots.

UP NEXT: Concordia will have a 2-week break before returning to action when they host St. Catherine in a 2-game series on Jan. 17-18 at the Moorhead Sports Center.
