1st Timers Push Series Sweep

STORY LINE: For the second straight game Concordia had a player score the game-winning tally on her first collegiate goal and swept Finlandia in the 2-game series. Sophomore Anna Ballweber notched the only goal of the game midway through the second period and goalie Amy Jost stopped all 15 shots she faced to help the Cobbers to a 1-0 win in the final non-conference game of the year.

EIGHT IS GREAT: The win is the eighth of the year for the Cobbers which tie the program record for wins before the Christmas break. Concordia also collected eight pre-Christmas victories in the 2016-17 season. CC would finish the conference season with a 11-5-2 mark which was good for third place.

RECORDS: Concordia has now won two straight and five of the past six. The Cobbers went 4-1 in the month of December and are 8-4-1 in all games. Finlandia is now 0-13-0 on the year.

1ST-TIMERS: On Friday freshman Tiffany Hanson scored her first collegiate goal and it proved to be the game winner in the Cobbers' 3-1 win. On Saturday Anna Ballweber's backhand strike was the only goal of the game and the first of her career. Ballweber took a pass on the right side of the crease from Meghan Rethemeier and settled it with her backhand. She then lifted a backhand shot over the shoulder of the Finlandia goalie and into the net.

GAME-WINNING GOAL vs. FINLANDIA:

SHE LOVES FINLANDIA: Junior Amy Jost made 15 saves to earn her second shutout as a member of the Cobbers. Both of her blankings have come against Finlandia. Jost made 18 saves last year in a 2-0 win at Finlandia.

CRUNCH TIME SAVE: Jost's biggest save of the game came in the final seconds of the third period. The Cobbers were killing off a penalty and the Lions pulled their goalie to gain a 6-on-4 advantage. They were able to get the puck to the net and Jost was able to stop the puck on the goal line after a pile of players tried to push it over the line.

PUNY PENALTY TOTALS: There were only four penalties called in the series finale. Both teams were whistled for two infractions and both squads were scoreless on the power play.

RACKING UP THE SHOT TOTALS: Less than 24 hours after putting up a season-best 54 shots on goal, Concordia racked up 42 shots. The Cobbers have recorded at least 40 shots on goal in the last three games and have 140 total shots on frame in that time.

STAT STUFF: Amanda Flemming and Libby Hinrichs both had a game-high six shots on goal as Concordia outshot the Lions 42-15.

UP NEXT: The Cobbers will have an extended break for Christmas and return to action on Jan. 11-12 when they host St. Mary's in a 2-game series. The Cardinals are 4-6 overall and 1-5 in MIAC play.
