MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/03/18)---A snow storm rolled into the Fargo-Moorhead area overnight but waited until 2 p.m. to bury the Moorhead Sports Center.

Concordia gave up an avalanche of goals in the first period against Hamline and fell 13-5 to the first-place Pipers. The Cobbers allowed the first goal just 20-seconds into the game and by the time the first period was 5:42 old Concordia trailed 5-0.

The good news for the Cobbers is that after the 8-0 deficit in the first frame they were able to skate to a 5-5 deadlock for the final 40 minutes in the game – including outscoring the Pipers 3-2 in the third period.

Concordia (9-9-3/6-5-3 MIAC) was also successful on the power play as they went 2-for-5 and ended a two-game drought in man-advantage situations.

Sophomore Sara Baumann was the offensive star for the Cobbers as she scored her first two collegiate goals. Baumann scored the second goal for CC at the 12:35 mark of the second period and then added another even-strength strike at 15:48 of the third period.

Baumann's two goals were also significant for freshman defenseman Mackenzie Bergstrom who earned the assist on both scores to record her first collegiate points.

Concordia's other even-strength goal was also a collegiate first for one of the Cobbers. Kaitlyn Page earned her first college nugget when she found the back of the net at 11:03 of the third period.

The Cobbers two power-play goals featured stat sheet regulars. Freshman Callie Fagerstrom got CC on the board at 7:14 of the second period. Tori Davis and Josee Lundgren set up Fagerstrom's seventh goal of the year.

Senior Emily Goff put up the 5-spot for Concordia when she finished off the scoring for CC at 17:19 of the third period. The goal was Goff's 10th of the year and was assisted by Abbie Canton.

Concordia was outshot 43-19 in the game with Goff and Page having four shots each to lead CC.

WHAT'S NEXT: Concordia will look to shovel out from the storm and get ready for their next MIAC series when they host Gustavus on Feb. 9-10 at the Moorhead Youth Rink.
