Power Play & Empty Netters Propel Win

WINONA, Minn. (1/12/18)--- Concordia scored four consecutive goals from the end of the first period to the beginning of the third frame and doubled up St. Mary's 6-3

Amanda Flemming, Emily Goff, Tori Davis and Callie Fagerstrom all had multiple-point nights to lead the Cobber offense. The quartet combined for five of the team's six goals and had nine points as they helped the Cobbers snap their two-game losing skid.

The win pushes Concordia's unbeaten streak in conference games to three. The Cobbers are now 4-1-2 in league play and with the win move into a tie for third place in the MIAC standings. CC is 7-5-2 overall.

Concordia fell behind in the third minute of the first period but then used a pair of goals 7-seconds apart at the back end of the frame to take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.

Davis tied the game at 1-1 when she netted her sixth goal of the year at 16:15 off an assist from Flemming. The Cobbers regained possession of the puck off the ensuing faceoff and Goff put Concordia in the lead when she matched Davis with her sixth goal of the season at 16:22. Megan Dondelinger and Abbie Canton were credited with the assists on the play.

Fagerstrom would tally the only goal of the middle period when she scored on the power play at the 9:19 mark of the period. Flemming earned her second assist of the night on the goal which gave CC a 3-1 lead.

Goff would make it a 4-1 game when she scored an unassisted goal just 2:42 into the third period.

St. Mary's (6-8-0/3-4-0) would get to within a single goal when they scored at 4:45 and then again at the 15:42 mark.

Concordia put the game on ice with a pair of empty-net strikes in the final 1:21 of play. Flemming poached her second goal of the game at 18:39 and then Maiah McCowan made it a three-goal margin when she finished off the scoring at 19:36. Davis had the helper on Flemming's empty netter while Fagerstrom was credited with the assist on the final Cobber goal.

Concordia was outshot 36-31 in the game. Flemming, Goff and Davis led Concordia with five shots on goal each.

Brittany Boss turned aside 33 shots to pick up her fourth win of the season.

TERRIFIC 10: Amanda Flemming now has a team-leading 10 goals on the year. She also leads the team in assists with eight which gives her 18 points on the year. Flemming had 10 goals and 12 points in all of last season. She is currently third in the MIAC in goals scored and tied for fifth in overall points. Fleming also has nine points on the power play which is tops in all the league.

GAME-WINNING GOFF: Emily Goff netted her third game-winning goal of the season when she tallied the Cobbers' fourth goal on Friday night. Goff has seven total goals on the year and her three game winners is tied for tops in the MIAC.

POWER PLAY POSTINGS: Concordia went 2-for-3 on the power play against the Cardinals in the series opener. The Cobbers lead the conference in power play success. CC is scoring on 29.2% of their PP chances this season. Last year they made good on 23.8% of their power play opportunities and also led the MIAC. Their 29.2% rate this year is fourth best in all of Division III.
