Offensive Minded Recruiting Class
MOORHEAD, Minn. (7/18/17)--- A group of eight student/athletes who all amassed at least 20 points last year highlight the incoming recruiting class for Concordia. Head Coach Jason Gregoire announced his 2017-18 recruiting class which features 10 new athletes.
"I am really excited about the group coming in," commented Gregoire. "They are very good in the classroom, leaders on and off the ice and multi-sport athletes who know what it takes to be successful."
The 10 new student/athletes will be looking to replace a group of seven seniors who graduated in the spring and had a huge impact on the program. Last year the Cobbers made the MIAC playoffs for the seventh straight year and posted their fourth Top 3 finish in the last six years.
The majority of the 10 incoming first-year players all helped their high school teams put points on the board and be successful in the win-loss column. The 10 players combined to score 115 goals and record a total of 227 points.
Offensively we have added size, hockey sense, grit and ladies who can score," added Gregoire. "We needed to replace a core group that we lost to graduation and I am excited to see what these girls can do. They have the potential to be very good."
The players come from Minnesota and North Dakota with six forwards and four defenseman on the list. The most decorated players of the group are forward Callie Fagerstrom from Thief River Falls and Kaitlyn Page of Bismarck (N.D.). Fagerstrom was named to the Minnesota All-State Honorable Mention Team while Page helped her team win the North Dakota State High School championship.
Concordia will open the 2017-18 season on Oct. 27 when they host Northland (Wis.) in a two-game series at the Moorhead Sports Center. The Cobbers drop the puck on conference play on Nov. 10-11 when they are home to St. Catherine.
