Who Ya Gonna Call? Goalbusters

MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. (2/06/16)--- Ray Parker Jr. may want to redo the lyrics to his hit song "Ghotsbusters".

The Concordia version would go, "If you need a win in a desperate way. Who ya gonna call? Goalbusters!

The Cobbers used a lock-down defense around the goal and the continued stellar play of Andrea #TheWall" Klug to blank league-leading St. Thomas 1-0 in overtime.

The win ended a three-game road losing streak and kept Concordia  in the top 3 of the MIAC standings. The Cobbers are now 11-9-1 overall and 9-5-0 in league play. The nine wins gives them 18 conference points which is just one point behind second-place St. Thomas and two behind league-leading Augsburg. The Tommies are now 14-5-1 and 9-5-1 in the MIAC.

While the story of the game was the Klug and the Concordia defense, the clutch moment was produced by sophomore forward Tori Davis. As the game wound down in the 5-minute overtime period, it looked like the teams would skate to a scoreless 0-0 tie. Davis had other ideas as she scored an even-strength goal at the 2:50 mark of the extra period.

The goal was Davis' team-leading 12th of the season. She only had five in her entire first year last season.

Davis' overtime heroics was set up by junior defenseman Chelsey Petrich.

Klug continued her outstanding junior season. After being named the team's No.1 netminder at the start of the season, Klug has responded with career numbers.

Klug stopped all 40 shots she faced on Saturday to add to her single-season school record total of seven shutouts. Her 40-save performance is a season high.

Concordia was outshot 40-24 in the game. Davis had a team-high five shots on goal while Cassey Petrich, Ellen Rethwisch and Jessie Kongelf all had four shots.

Both teams had four power play attempts and neither team was able to score in the man-advantage situation. Concordia was given a power play at the 18:30 mark of the third period and couldn't convert on the opportunity which carried over into overtime.

WINNER, WINNER, MIAC LEADING DINNER
Tori Davis' goal in overtime was her fourth game-winning goal of the season. That mark is tops in the MIAC in conference play this season. She also has 10 goals in league play which is second in the MIAC. Davis has 13 overall points in the team's 14 conference games and that is tied for third in the league.

THE RETURN OF THE WALL
Andrea Klug's last shutout came on Jan. 8 against nationally-ranked Wis.-River Falls. She has started all 19 games for the Cobbers and was grinding through the dog days of January but then put up another gem on Saturday. Klug's seven shutouts on the season leads the MIAC and is tied for second in all of Division III.

20-POINT PLATEAU
Concordia now has four games left in the MIAC regular season. The Cobbers have 18 league points and will probably need one more win to get into the five-team playoff. No school which has had 20 conference points has ever missed the postseason since the league went to the current point format in 2012-13. Last year CC had 21 points in MIAC play and finished in third place.

WHAT'S NEXT
Concordia returns home for its final home series of the regular season. The Cobbers will host St. Olaf on Friday, Feb. 12 and Saturday, Feb. 13. Both games will be played at the Moorhead Youth Rink.
