A Forgettable Friday

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (1/22/16)—Concordia's offense got lost on the way to Minneapolis and the Cobbers lost 3-0 at Augsburg.

It's only the second time this year that Concordia has failed to find the back of the net in a game and the loss ends a three-game conference winning streak.

The defeat also knocks Concordia off the top of the MIAC standings. The Cobbers are now 7-3-0 in league play and 9-6-1 overall. CC is one point behind St. Thomas who is 7-1-1. The Auggies get to within a single point of Concordia in the standings. Augsburg climbs to 9-6-1 in all games and 6-2-1 in the conference.

Concordia wound up outshooting Augsburg 27-25 in the game but the Cobbers went 0-for-2 on the power play and could never come up with a game-tying goal in the second period before Augsburg broke open the game with a pair of goals 10-minutes apart in the third period.

Augsburg scored the game-winning goal at the 18:36 mark of the first period. The Auggies netted a power play goal on the first of their only two man-advantage situations.

The Cobbers had a single power-play opportunity in each of the second and third periods but their five shots on goal during those chances never got behind Auggie goalie Erika Allen.

Junior Amber Schaack led all players with seven shots on goal. Jess Nelson had four shots.

Andrea Klug stopped 22 shots and allowed more than two goals for only the fourth time in 14 games this season.

SCHAACK THE SHOT MAKER
The seven shots put up by Amber Schaack mark the second straight game she has had at least seven shots on goal in a game. It is also the ninth time she has recorded at least five shots in a game. Schaack now has 75 total shots this season which leads the MIAC and is seven shy of her career best single-season shot total.

FORGET FRIDAY
Concordia now has two losses in league play and both have come on Friday. The Cobbers have six losses total and three of those have been on Friday. In addition, both times Concordia has been shutout they have been on a Friday.

WHAT'S NEXT
Concordia will look to stay within striking distance of the top of the MIAC and hold off the second-place charge from Augsburg when they finish off the series with the Auggies on Saturday, Jan. 23 at 2 p.m. at the Ed Saugestad Rink in Minneapolis. The Cobbers are 6-2 on games played on Saturday and 4-0 against MIAC opponents on Saturday.
