A Long Afternoon At The Office

MOORHEAD, MINN. (1/09/16)—The total time in the final box score states that Concordia's series finale with No.7-ranked Wis.-River Falls took less than two hours but the Cobber coaches and player might argue that it seemed like the game lasted four several hours.

Concordia gave up a goal in the first 19-seconds of play, allowed four scores in the opening period, six more in the second and lost 10-2 to River Falls. The loss comes less than 24 hours after the Cobbers skated to a 0-0 overtime tie with the Falcons.

The good news for Concordia is that it was a non-conference game and doesn't go against their league-leading MIAC record. It counts as just one loss but it felt like more as CC suffered its worst defeat since a 10-1 defeat at the start of the 2005-06 season.

All 10 goals that Concordia gave up on Saturday were even-strength tallies. That fact highlights one of the bright spots for the Cobbers.

Concordia held River Falls scoreless on four power play attempts and has not allowed a power play goal The Cobbers haven't allowed a power play goal in four straight games and 10 of the previous 11 games. CC has killed off 37 of the past 38 power play attempts.

The other bright spot came from the "Jess" tandem of Jessica Kongelf and Jess Nelson. The two scored the lone goals for the Cobbers on the weekend.

Kongelf notched her sixth goal of the year on the power play at 10:04 of the first period. Nelson picked up the lone assist on the play.

Nelson then capped off the scoring in the game when she scored an unassisted nugget at 13:47 of the third period.

Concordia was outshot 33-7 in the game. Kongelf, Nelson and Tori Davis all had two shots each as the trio combined for six of the seven shots on goal for the team.

Andrea Klug proved she was human after all. After notching her school-record sixth shutout of the year on Friday night, Klug allowed six goals on 17 shots. Freshman Brittany Boss played the final two periods and made 17 saves.
