Gregoire Named Interim Head Coach

MOORHEAD, Minn. (8/11/14)—Concordia Athletic Director Rich Glas announced that Jason Gregoire will be the interim head coach for the Cobber women's hockey team for the 2014-15 season. Gregoire replaces Sarah Erickson who resigned due to personal reasons.

"Jason's coaching experience and familiarity with the team will make the transition very easy," stated Glas. "I am sad to see Sarah leave but I believe that Jason will be a great asset for the program."

Gregoire, who was the team's assistant coach last season, takes over a program that has appeared in four consecutive MIAC tournaments and is coming off a 13-win season in 2013-14.

Like his predecessor, Gregoire brings NCAA Division I playing experience to the job.  Gregoire played collegiately at the University of Minnesota Duluth for two seasons. He played goalie for the Bulldogs during the 1999-00 and 2000-01 seasons.

In addition to his playing experience at the college level, Gregoire also played for the USA Select final teams in both the 16 and 17 age categories. He then went on to play junior hockey in the Junior A level for two seasons and was selected to the North American Hockey League all-star game during his season with the Bismarck Bobcats in 1997-98.

Last season was Gregoire's first with the Cobber women's team. In addition his role as assistant coach he also served as the team's goalie coach and helped Concordia finish with the best goals against average in the MIAC and the seventh best in all of NCAA Division III.

Gregoire started his coaching career by serving as the Moorhead Bantam "A" coach for six seasons. During that time he was also the assistant coach for the Cobber men's team in 2008-09. Before coming to Concordia, Gregoire served as an assistant coach for the perennial state power Moorhead High School boys' team in 2012-13.

"I am excited about the opportunity to coach the team," said Gregoire. "I got to know the players last season and we will have a great group of returners. I am thankful for the chance to continue to develop the Cobber women's hockey team."
