Win Streak Reaches Three

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (1/24/14)—Madison Gendreau scored the game-winning goal midway through the third period and freshman goalie Andrea Klug shut the door on Augsburg for the final 14 minutes of play in Concordia's 2-1 win against the Auggies on Friday.

Gendreau's team-leading third goal of the season helped the Cobbers extend their win streak to three games – the longest of the season. CC is now 5-8-3 in all games and 4-4-1 in league play. The Auggies lose for the third straight time and are now 5-11-0 and 2-7-0 in the MIAC.

The game was a scoreless draw through the first two periods of play. The teams combined for 36 shots in the first 40 minutes but neither team had any real outstanding chances. There was only one penalty called in the first two periods of play with the Cobbers killing off the only power-play attempt of the game.

The game turned into a scoring spree in the third period when the Cobbers and Auggies combined for two goals in a span of 4:24 in the first six minutes of play. Bri Flynn got Concordia on the board first when she scored on a power play at 1:24. Like Gebdreau, it was also Flynn's third goal of the season. The power-play goal at 11:47 was assisted by Libby Fransdal and Cassey Petrich. It would be the first of two assists on the night from Fransdal.

Augsburg tied the game at 5:48 of the final frame. The teams would combine for 13 shots before Gendreau came up with the game winner at the 11:47 mark. Fransdal picked up her team-leading fifth assist on the day. For Gendreau it was her third goal and fifth overall point of the season.

Klug was called upon to make three saves in the final six minutes of play. She stopped all three and had 25 saves in the game to earn her third win of the season. She lowered her goals against average to 1.21 on the season and now has a 94.6% save percentage.

CC outshot Augsburg 32-26 for the three periods.

Concordia was 1-for-3 on the power play for the game while Augsburg was held scoreless in their only man-advantage situation.

The two teams will finish off the two-game series on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 2 p.m.
