Skala's First Collegiate Goal Not Enough In Loss

MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/11/14)—Concordia's continues to shine in 2013-14 unfortunately for the Cobbers the offense is just a step behind. Concordia held No.7-ranked UW-River Falls to only two goals but could only manage a single goal in the final seconds of play and lost 2-1.

Concordia's string of games against nationally ranked opponents finally comes to an end. The Cobbers have played 13 games so far this season and 12 have come against teams ranked in the top 15 of the nation. CC is currently 2-8-3 on the year. River Falls remains unbeaten in its last 10 games and moves to 10-3-2.

The Cobbers only gave up one goal in the run of play to the high-powered Falcon offense. River Falls scored in the seventh minute of the second period and then added an empty-net goal in the final minute of the third period.

Concordia goalie Madison Denny stopped 28 of the 29 shots she faced in the game and kept CC close the entire day. She did not allow a goal in the first period and made 14 saves in the first 20 minutes of play.

Denny upped her save percentage to 92.0% on the season and lowered her goals against average to 2.16.

Concordia got their only goal of the game with only 8-seconds left on the clock. Freshman Natasha Skala came up with the first goal of the weekend for the Cobbers when she slapped home a shot from in between the faceoff circles. Ellen Rethwisch and Brittany Oliver assisted on Skala's first collegiate goal.

Neither team was able to connect on the power play in the game. Both the Cobbers and Falcons went 0-for-2 in man-advantage situations.

The Cobbers will head back to conference play when they host St. Ben's in a two-game series on Jan. 17-18.
