Scoring Woes Continue in St. Thomas Series Opener

MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. (12/6/13)—Concordia's scoring woes reared its ugly head in the Cobbers' 3-0 loss at St. Thomas. CC has now scored two goals in the last four games and only four goals in the team's first eight games of the year.

Concordia played even with the league-leading Tommies through the first period and the first nine minutes of the second period. UST then opened the game up with a pair of goals in a span of 6:38 midway through the middle frame. They would tack on a third goal when they were shorthanded at 8:03 to finish off the scoring sheet at 3-0.

The Cobbers are now 1-6-1 overall and 1-4 in the MIAC this season. All eight games have been against teams that were ranked in the top 15 of the nation at the time. St. Thomas, who was in the "others receiving votes" category in the latest USCHO rankings, remains unbeaten in league play at 5-0 and is now 5-1-0 in all games.

Concordia outshot the Tommies 12-5 in the third period but was unable to come up with the crucial goal at the start of the period that would have gotten them within a single goal. St. Thomas wound up outshooting the Cobbers 27-22 in the defensive battle.

Cobber freshmen Amber Schaack and Kristin Dreschel had a team-high three shots each for the game.

Freshman Andrea Klug made 24 saves in her second collegiate start. St. Thomas goalie Alise Riedel turned aside all 22 shots she faced.

Concordia was stung by the power play. The Cobbers were 0-for-5 in man-advantage situations and gave up the short-handed goal in the third period. St. Thomas failed to score in their only power play attempt.

The same two teams will finish off their two-game series on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 2:30 p.m.
