Four Straight Leads To Second Straight Loss

ST. PETER, Minn. (1/26/13)—Concordia couldn't match the explosive offensive attack from No.2-ranked Gustavus and lost 4-1 in St. Peter. The Cobbers gave up four straight goals and were swept in the weekend series.

Concordia is now 6-7-3 in all games and 5-4-1 in the MIAC. The Cobbers fall out of second place in the league standings and are now in a tie for third place with eight games remaining in the regular season. Gustavus remains perfect on the year and is now 16-0-0 and 10-0-0 in the league.

Gustavus got on the board with a pair of first-period scores. The Gusties notched the first goal of the game at 4:56 and then added another at 14:21 to take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission. GAC would then add a single goal in the second and then one more at the 58-second mark of the third before Concordia would finally light the lamp.

Anna Westmark scored the lone goal of the game for the Cobbers when she tallied her fourth goal of the season. Westmark's goal at 3:14 was assisted by Brittany Oliver and Madison Gendreau. The assist for Gendreau was her team-leading seventh of the season. She is now the team's leading scorer with 13 points and has tallied at least one point in five straight games.

Concordia was outshot for the second straight game. The Gusties held a 45-20 edge in shots on goal. Cobber goalie Rebecca Hendrickson made 41 saves in the game. Gustavus netminder Tara Hoverstad stopped 19 of the 20 shots she faced in the game.

Neither team was able to score on the power play. Concordia was held scoreless in their three power play attempts while Gustavus was 0-for-5 on their man-advantage situations.

Concordia will stay on the road and look to stop their two-game losing skid when they play at St. Kate's on Friday, Feb. 1 and Saturday, Feb. 2.
