Second-Period Scoring Barrage Leads To 3-3 Tie

ST. CLOUD, Minn. (11/02/12)—No.10-ranked Concordia and St. Ben's combined to score five goals in the second period and skated to a 3-3 overtime in St. Cloud on Friday. It is the second consecutive tie for the Cobbers and keeps them unbeaten on the year at 1-0-2.

The game was played as a non-conference contest for both teams.

Concordia junior All-Conference forward Abby Taffe got the scoring started when she netted the only goal of the first period at 8:53. Taffe's goal came on the power play and Breann Julius and Hannah Johnston were credited with the assists. It would be the first of two power play goals on the night for CC and the first of two assists for Johnston.

The second period started off in the fourth minute of play when the Blazers tied the score at 1-1. They took a 2-1 lead at the 7:16 mark before Macy Leland notched the first of her two goals on the night to even the score at 2-2 at 9:33.

The Blazers then regained the lead at 12:59 before Leland scored on the power play at 15:45 to finish off the scoring. Johnston earned her second assist of the night on the game's final goal.

The two teams would then skate through 29 minutes without another goal. Both teams had five shots in the third frame and then one in the extra session as the game evened out in the final period of play.

The Cobbers wound up outshooting St. Ben's 26-19 for the night. CC was also 2-for-3 on the power play while CSB was held scoreless in their four man-advantage situations.

Concordia goalie Becca Hendrickson made 16 saves and has still not lost on the season. Kaitlyn Rolando turned back 23 shots to earn her first tie of the year.

Concordia will stay on the road and play another non-conference game against a conference opponent. The Cobbers will face Bethel at the national Sports Center in Blaine on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 3 p.m.
