MEQUON, Wis. (10/26/12)—Concordia scored a pair of first-period goals and went on to beat Concordia (Wis.) 3-1 in the 2012-13 season opener on Friday. Junior Abby Taffe scored a goal and had two assists in helping the Cobbers post their fifth straight season-starting victory.

It was some new and old on the score sheet for the Cobbers. Freshman Anna Westmark started the scoring midway through the opening period of play. She scored her first collegiate goal at 9:13 on an assist from Abby Taffe. Concordia then scored the most important goal of the game at the end of the first frame when Breann Julius capitalized on a power play attempt. The goal, with just 23-seconds remaining in the period was assisted by Taffe and freshman Mickey Moran.

Neither team would be able to get a goal in the second period. The Falcons would get to within one at the 5:54 mark of the second period before Taffe finished off her three-point night when she capped the scoring with 6:30 to play in the final stanza.

Cobber goalie Becca Hendrickson picked up where she left off in last year's NCAA Tournament. The sophomore netminder stopped 31 of the 32 shots she faced in earning her first win of the year and seventh career victory.

Concordia held a 33-32 edge in shots on goal for the game. Both teams were whistled for six penalties in the game.

The Cobbers will now head 100 miles north to De Pere, Wis. where they will take on St. Norbert College on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 2 p.m.
