Julius Named MIAC Player of the Week

MOORHEAD, Minn. (12/05/11)--Concordia sophomore forward Breann Julius (Brookings, S.D.) was named the MIAC Player of the Week after scoring four goals and one assist in the Cobbers's record-setting sweep over St. Thomas.

It is the second straight week a Concordia player has earned conference Player of the Week honors. Last week junior defenseman Ali Nelson took home the award. It is the first time in her career that Julius has won the MIAC weekly award.

Julius had a hand in five of the six Concordia goals in the two-game sweep over St. Thomas. She scored the game-winning goal on Friday in the Cobbers' 2-1 win and then had a hat trick and added an assist in CC's 4-1 victory on Saturday. It was the first time in program history that Concordia has ever swept the Tommies in a two-game series.

Julius, who was moved from defense to forward before the team's series with Lake Forest, has been one of the catalysts for the Cobbers' successful season. Concordia is currently 6-1-1 overall and 4-1-1 in the MIAC and has won four straight games. CC is currently ranked ninth in the nation in the latest USCHO.com national poll.

Julius now has seven goals and four assists on the year and is tied for second place on the team in overall points with 11. She has had at least one point in six of the team's eight games this year and is currently fifth in the MIAC in goals per game (0.88). Julius transferred to Concordia in the fall after playing her first season at NCAA DI Quinnipiac University in Connecticut.

Concordia has one game left in the 2011 calendar year. The Cobbers will play St. Kate's on Saturday, Dec. 10 in Buffalo, Minn. CC will return in the New Year on Jan. 6 when they host Lindenwood (Mo.).
