Cobbers Rally To Beat Lake Forest

PRIOR LAKE, Minn. (11/25/11)--Katelyn Dold had a goal and three assists as Concordia rallied to beat Lake Forest (Ill.) 5-3 at the Dakota Ice Arena in Prior Lake, Minn. on Friday. The Cobbers scored three unanswered goals in the third period to collect their third win of the season.

Neither team scored in the first period but then the goal scoring barrage begin in the second half of the middle frame as the teams combined for five goals in less than 10 minutes . Concordia jumped to a 1-0 lead at 10:50 when Dold collected her fourth goal of the season. The Foresters then grabbed a 2-1 lead on goals by Kim Herring and Jessica Dare in a span of 3:03. CC junior defenseman Ali Nelson, playing in her first game of the season after playing with the Cobber women's soccer team in the NCAA Tournament, tied the game at 2-2 in the final minute of the second period when she snapped home a shot from the right face-off circle on the power play at 19:19.  

Lake Forest had the last word in the period as Maeve Connelly stole the puck right in front of the Concordia goal and jammed the puck past CC goalie Desiree Goret with only 24 ticks left in the period. 

The Cobbers then put together their best period of the game, connecting on three goals in the first eight minutes of play. Breann Julius got the CC roll going with a goal at 2:01 that tied the game at 3-3. Macy Leland then scored the game-winning goal on the power play at the 4:10 mark. Nelson hammered a shot from the point and the puck hit Leland and caromed into the net for the team's fourth goal of the game.

Brooke Rundell added the insurance goal at 7:31 when she redirected the puck into the goal from right in front of the net.

Concordia outshot Lake Forest  29-16 in the game. That total was aided by seven power play chances for CC - which included a pair of 5-on-3 situations. The Cobbers were 2-for-7 on the power play while the Foresters scored one power play goal in their five man-advantage situations.

Goret made 13 saves to pick up the win in her first start of the season. Lake Forest goalie Stacey Diereking stopped 24 shots in the loss.

The two teams will complete their two-game series on Saturday, Nov. 26 at 3:45 at the Dakotah Ice Arena.
