Olson & Pennington Earn WCGA Honors

MOORHEAD, Minn. (7/6/17)--- A pair of Concordia student/athletes were named to the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholar Team.

Emily Grace Olson and Erin Pennington both earned the golf coaches association top academic honor for having a minimum grade point average of 3.50.

Olson graduated with a GPA of 3.74 while majoring in Business. In addition to her WGCA academic honor, Olson was also named to the MIAC Academic All-Conference Team earlier in June. It marked the second straight season that Olson has earned the conference academic award.

Olson finished third on the team in scoring average in her senior season. She tied for the team lead at the MIAC Championship Meet in October when she carded a three-round total of 260 and finished in 27th place. Olson's low round of the year came at the conference tournament when she fired an 81 in the third round.

Pennington carries a 3.67 GPA and is majoring in Biology. Like Olson, she is also a two-time MIAC Academic All-Conference honoree.

Pennington led the team in scoring average last year and tied with Olson for the top spot at the MIAC Championship Meet. She finished the year with an 86.8 average over 13 rounds of competitive play. Pennington posted a pair of Top 5 finishes during the year with her top outing coming in the Cobber Spring Invite where she came home in third place. Her other Top 5 finish of the season came in September when she placed fifth at the Wis.-Eau Claire Blugold Invite.

The Women's Golf Coaches Association, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women's collegiate golf coaches. The WGCA was formed to encourage the playing of college golf for women in correlation with a general objective of education and in accordance with the highest tradition of intercollegiate competition. Today, the WGCA represents over 500 coaches throughout the United States and is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing both its members and the student-athletes they represent.
