Veterans Lead 15-Shot Improvement

COON RAPIDS, Minn. (10/10/16)— Concordia improved by 15 shots from their 2015 team total at the MIAC Championship Meet as they placed eighth for the third straight year.

The Cobbers were led by a pair of upperclassmen who took different paths to get to the same final total. Senior Emily Grace Olson and Erin Pennington both recorded identical three-day totals of 260 and finished in a tie for 27th place. For both players it was their lowest score and best finish at an MIAC Championship Meet.

Olson and Pennington helped Concordia come away with a team total of 1061 (353-352-356) which was 15 shots better than CC's team score in 2015.

Olson had two consistent rounds on Saturday and Sunday and then recorded the best 18-hole score of college career at the conference meet. Olson started with an 89, climbed one stroke to a 90 on Day 2 and then closed with a blistering 81 on Monday. The 81 was the best score of any Concordia player at the meet during the three days and her lowest league meet score by three shots.

Olson's previous low total at the league meet came last year when she scored a 266.

Pennington started low in the first two rounds but then found trouble on Monday and finished at 260. Pennington's previous best three-day total at the conference meet came as a freshman in 2014 when she posted a score of 263 and finished in a tie for 39th place.

Pennington started the 2016 meet with an 84 and was tied for 21st place. She then followed that up with an 82 on Sunday to take sole possession of 21st place. Pennington then slid back with a 94 on Monday to finish at 260.

A freshmen "Katie" duo finished within one stroke of one another and was the team's No.3 and No.4 golfers at the meet. Katie Krueger sandwiched an 88 in between a pair of 91's to post a final total of 270 in her first conference meet. She placed 36th out a total of 50 championship golfers.

Katie Froemke was one shot off of Krueger's pace as she went 89-92-90 and finished with a total of 271. Her total was good for a tie for 37th place.

Sophomore Emily Ladd was the team's fifth golfer at the meet and recorded a final total of 289 (97-95-97).
