Career Day For Pennington

EAU CLAIRE, WIS. (9/12/16)--- Junior Erin Pennington saved the best for last on the final day of the Georgianni Blugold Invitational hosted by Wis.-Eau Claire. Pennington fired the lowest round of her collegiate career on Monday and earned her first-ever Top 10 finish at a multi-team invitational.

Pennington started the weekend by carding a 90 on Sunday but then found her game on Monday and came home with an 80. Her final-round 80 was tied for the second lowest score of the 80 by any golfer and was her career-best round in maroon and gold. Her previous low score for 18 holes was 84 which she shot on four different occasions.

Pennington's two-day total of 170 earned her the first Top 10 finish of her career. She placed in a tie for fifth place – only one shot out of fourth place.

Pennington's career round helped the Cobbers finish fourth at the eight-team tournament. Concordia had a team total of 370 on the first day but then led by Pennington, shot a 356 on Monday. The 356 team total is the low round of the year for CC.

Pennington leads the Cobbers in stroke average this year. She has an average of 85.8 over her four rounds on the season. Her previous low season stroke average was 88.9 in 2015-16.

Senior Emily Grace Olson followed Pennington's lead as she had a decidedly better second-day score. Olson struggled to a 96 on Sunday but then came back with an 88 on Monday. She finished with a total of 184 which earned her a 15th-place finish. The 88 is Olson's second lowest round of the year and drops her season average to 91.0.

Freshman Katie Froemke was the team leader in the clubhouse after Day 1. She carded an 88 but then followed that up with a 97 on Monday. Her two-day total of 185 was one shot behind Olson and earned her a tie for 16th place on the leaderboard.

Katelin Kreuger and Alyssa Dalen were the final two members of the CC tournament team. Kreuger went 96-91 for a total of 187 and Dalen finished with a total of 195 (97-98).
