Johnson Goes Top 5 At Bethel Invite

BECKER, Minn. (9/13/15)—Concordia junior Hayley Johnson posted the first top 5 finish of her college career in a multiple-day meet as she helped the Cobbers place third at the Bethel Invite held at Pebble Creek GC.

Johnson's 2-day total of 165 (84-81) tied with four other golfers for fourth place at the meet. Johnson had posted a pair of other top 5 finishes in her first two seasons in maroon and gold but they both came in one-day tournaments.

Johnson has now fired four straight rounds in the 80's this season. She started the year with scores of 89 and 86 last weekend.

Concordia finished off the Bethel Invite by recording scores of 350 and 356 for a two-day total of 706. The team total of 350 on Saturday is the lowest score in a round this season for the Cobbers. CC also improved by nine shots from last week's season-opening tournament at St. Benedict.

The Cobbers had three other golfers finish in the top 20 at the Bethel Invite. Erin Pennington was the most consistent golfer in the top 20 as she carded identical 87's and finished in 12th place at 174. It was the first time this season that Pennington has shot scores in the 80's.

Tiffany Swanson and Emily Grace Olson were only separated by one stroke and came home in 17th and 18th place. Swanson went 86-97 to finish at 183 while Olson was more consistent at 93-91 and posted a total of 184.

WHAT'S NEXT: Concordia will head to Lake City to compete in the Division III Classic. The meet will be held at The Jewel GC on Saturday, Sept. 19 and Saturday, Sept. 20.
