Select Crew Succeeds At Bethel Royal Invite
VICTORIA, Minn. (4/19/15)—Concordia took a select crew to the final meet of the spring season and finished in a tie for eighth place at the Bethel Royal Invite at Deer Run Golf Club.
The Cobbers three golfers finished with a two-day total of 521 (271-250) and all three improved by at least five shots from the first to the second rounds.
Senior Katie Nelson closed out her career by leading the Cobbers and finishing in a tie for 14th place. It is Nelson's second top 20 finish of the year. Nelson went out with an 86 on Saturday and then backed that up with a 79 on Sunday. She finished with a two-day total of 165 which was the top CC golfer by 10 shots.
Nelson's 79 in the final round tied for the team's low single round total of the entire fall-spring season. It was also Nelson's lowest single-round score since the 2013-14 season when she fired a 78 in the first round of the Cobber Open.
Erin Pennington closed out the spring with a final total of 175 and placed 26th. She shot a 90 on Saturday and then did that five strokes better with an 85 on Sunday. The 85 is one shot off her season-best round.
Emily Grace Olson was the final member of the Cobber crew at the meet. She came away with the biggest improvement from round-to-round. Olson went around in 95 in the opening round and then closed out with an 86 in the second round. The 86 is the lowest round of the year for Olson.
