Swanson Keeps Going Lower And Lower In 2014

SARTELL, Minn. (9/21/14)—Tiffany Swanson continues to go lower and lower as she winds her way through her junior season. Swanson shot a pair of scores in the 80's and helped Concordia finish fifth at the CSB Blazer Invite held at Blackberry Ridge GC in Sartell.

Swanson started the year by shooting a 96 at the season-starting Cobber Open at the end of August. Since then she has played seven rounds and improved her score in all but two of those rounds. Swanson carded an 88 to win the Cougar Invite on Thursday and then bettered that score in both rounds at the Blazer Invite. She came home with a career-best 82 in the first round on Friday and then backed up slightly with an 85 on Sunday.

Swanson's two-round total of 167 earned her a tie for 18th place. She was the only Cobber golfer to finish in the top 20 at the meet.

Swanson has lowered her season scoring average to 89.9 for her eight rounds in 2014. Like the 2014 season, her career has collegiate career has steadily improved from season to season. She started her freshman season by averaging 93.8 strokes over 12 rounds. Last year she dropped that to 90.0 and now has her season average in the 80's.

The Cobbers had their No.2, 3 and 4 golfers all finish within a single shot of one another. Hayley Johnson shot a two-day total  of 169 (84-85) and was all alone in 21st place while Katie Nelson and Erin Pennington both carded identical 170 totals and tied for the No.22 spot in the tournament.

Concordia will now have an extended practice period in order to get ready for the MIAC Championship Meet on Oct. 4-6 at Bunker Hills GC.
