Cobbers Continue Cougar Invite Domination

Benson, Minn. (9/18/14)—Amy Mireault, Katie Nelson and Tiffany Swanson all tied for individual medalist honors as they helped Concordia walk away with the team title at the one-day Cougar Invite at the Benson Golf Club.

It is the fourth straight year that Concordia has claimed the team title at the Cougar Invite.

The three upperclassmen all fired identical 88's to push the Cobbers to a final team total of 353. Concordia had the top six golfers in the tournament as CC breezed to its first win of the season. Mireault posted her second top 20 finish of the season while Nelson and Swanson recorded their first top 20 finishes of 2014. Mireault tied for 15th place at the Concordia Invite when she carded a two-day total of 165 (84-81). She has now played six straight rounds in the 80's this season and leads the team in scoring average with an 85.2 mark.

Nelson's previous best finish of the year was a tie for 34th place at the season-starting Cobber Open. She has now scored in the 80's for three of her past five rounds and owns an 89.3 stroke average this year.

The 88 shot by Swanson marks the first time this season she has shot in the 80's. The senior's last top 10 finish came at this same event last year when she came home in 93 and was tied for seventh place.

Senior Kristi Opatz was one shot off the lead on Thursday. She shot an 89 and finished all alone in fourth place. Opatz is second on the team in stroke average this season. She has played in five rounds and is averaging 89.0.

A pair of Cobber sophomores tied for fifth place at the Cougar Invite. Emily Grace Olson and Hayley Johnson both shot 94.

Concordia will have only one day off before returning to action when they compete in the St. Ben's Blazer Fall Invite on Sept. 20-21 at Blackberry Ridge GC in Sartell, Minn.
