A WINdy Way To Cap The 2013-14 Season

MOORHEAD, Minn. (4/18/14)—Concordia saved its best for last as they won the final tournament of the season. The Cobbers posted a 1-2-3-4 finish at the Dragon Invite on Friday and earned their second invite win of the 2013-14 season.

Like every other spring sports team in the Minnesota/North Dakota area, Concordia has had to battle through cancellations and postponements in order to get a few competitions in during the last few weeks of the academic calendar year.

Concordia finished in a tie for fifth place in the St. Thomas Invite last weekend and used that experience to win the Dragon Invite at the Meadows Golf Course in Moorhead by a full 21 shots.

Junior Kristi Opatz earned medalist honors at the tournament by fighting through 18 holes of a strong wind and posting a final total of 85. She was one of only two players to break 90 on the day. It is the second top 5 finish of the fall/spring season for Opatz and the fifth top 20 finish. Opatz ends the 2013-14 season with a team-best 84.2 scoring average.

Cobber freshman Hayley Johnson came away with her first collegiate top 5 finish. She fired an 88 and placed second at the meet. The 88 marks a three-shot improvement over last weekend's finish at the St. Thomas Invite.

Kara Meslow and Amy Mireault rounded out the top 4 finishers for Concordia. The M&M tandem tied for third place with identical 94's. The pair finished one stroke better than a group of four golfers at 95. It is the first top 5 finish for Meslow while Mireault earns her second top 5 finish of the year and ends the season with an 85.4 stroke average.

Tiffany Swanson and Dana Meslow were the other members of the Concordia team at the meet. Swanson carded a 99 while Meslow came home with a 101. Swanson collected a top 20 finish last weekend at the St. Thomas Invite.

The future looks bright for Duane Siverson's crew that competed at the Dragon Invitational. All six golfers will return for the 2014-15 campaign.
