Spring Season Comes A-Callin'

BECKER, Minn. (4/12/14)—Concordia opened the spring season by finishing in a tie for fifth place at the shortened St. Thomas Invitational held at Pebble Creek Golf Club.

The Cobbers shot a one-day team total of 351 on the par-72 course. The tournament was scheduled to be a 36-hole event but the forecast for cold and rainy weather in the area cancelled the second round on Sunday.

Concordia junior Kristi Opatz paced the team at the meet. She fired an 83 and finished in a tie for 8th place. For Opatz it was the third time in 2013-14 that she has led the team at a tournament. It is also her third top 10 individual finish at a meet. Opatz' top finish came at the Cougar Invite when she placed second.

Tiffany Swanson was the only other Cobber golfer to finish in the top 20. She carded an 88 and came home in the No.20 spot. Teammate Kara Meslow was one shot behind with an 89 and placed 21st.

Hayley Johnson, Dana Meslow and Alex Hopkins rounded out the Concordia contingent at the meet. Johnson shot a 91 while Dana Meslow had a 92 and Hopkins finished with a 100.

The Cobbers continue with the spring portion of their schedule when they participate in the MSU Moorhead Invite on Apr. 18-19 at the Perham Lakeside Golf Course in Perham.
